EARLY DETECTION OF AUTISTM
The American Academy of Pediatrics, in October 2007, recommended that all children be screened for autism both at their 18 month and 24 month checkups by their Pediatrician. The M-CHAT or Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, is a recommended screening tool for early detection of Autism.
The M-CHAT is a questionnaire that may be utilized by your child's pediatrician along with clinical observations and a parent's report to assist in detecting autism as soon as possible. This screening tool is not a diagnostic tool, but is used as an alert to health professionals for the need of a further diagnostic assessment to be performed by professionals trained in Autism assessments. There is no known cause or cure for this disorder, but experts say that early intervention therapy can lesson the severity.
